    Design for print isn't design for digital, PDF rendering is a thing of the past.

    The current digital publishing platforms are just not getting it right. Publishers are fast realising that simply using pdf replicas and turning them into ‘flip’ magazines is not working. Subscribers are dwindling and ad revenue is non-existent.

    Readers, meanwhile, are migrating fast to digital and mobile, a move that accelerated in 2011 with the explosion of tablets and smartphone ownership.

    The shift is bringing new opportunities for magazine publishers, along with an array of new financial and technical challenges.

  • When you look at print magazines or books, much of the design was based on a variety of factors including economics and production limitations. The size of body type may have been chosen to optimize the amount of content that will fit on a finite amount of page space or a cost limitation of colour or substrates. In addition, print products are designed as "one size fits all" because there is no personalisation to the reader. These limitations don't apply to digital.
